Thanksgiving Twists
Looking for a twist on the typical (Canadian) Thanksgiving staples? We’ve got some ideas. Three recipes in our HABIT cookbook will shake up the festive table without causing a revolt: Caesar Brussels Sprouts, Miso Mushroom Gravy and Lemony Greek Potatoes.
All three stay true to the essential Thanksgiving feast ingredients, but with a refreshing remix that’s healthy, nutritious and gluten-free.
Caesar Brussels Sprouts starts with roasted Brussels sprouts, giving the tiny cabbages a satisfying crispy nuttiness. We then toss them with our creamy Caesar dressing. Anyone that loves Caesar salad or Brussel sprouts will dig in. We think the combo elevates the simple side to a serve-me-some-thirds tanginess.
Don’t do Lemon Greek Potatoes if you’re serving a crowd that drowns their mashed potatoes in gravy. But if your audience appreciates a crispy tatter or likes the fresh bite of lemon or just wants their potatoes to stand on their own, it’s a zippy, no-fail alternative. We get all kinds of rave reviews.
As gravies go, our Miso Mushroom is our hands down favourite. Yup, better than starting with the turkey drippings. It’s rich, smooth and good enough to drink. Plus, if you’ve got a vegan or gluten-free element at your table, they can still indulge.
